The first 24 hours matter most
A burst pipe in a kitchen, a leaking washing machine in an upstairs flat, a radiator that has dripped through a ceiling — all of these are jobs we get called for across Derby every winter. The damage from the water itself is bad. The mould, smell and ruined finishes that follow if it is not cleaned properly are worse.
Insurance will usually cover the structural side. What they often do not cover is the deep clean afterwards — the silt left in skirting, the smell in the carpet underlay, the dirty residue on every surface the water touched.
Speed matters. Within 48 hours, most clean-water spills can be sorted with no lasting impact. Past that point, mould starts to colonise damp materials and the job becomes much bigger.
What we do, in order
- Make safe and assess
Power off in affected sockets if not already, photograph everything for insurance, and walk the property to understand the scope.
- Extract standing water
Wet vacuums lift any remaining surface water from hard floors, carpets and behind appliances. We work room by room.
- Strip soaked materials
Soaked underlay, ruined cardboard storage and damp paperwork either get bagged for disposal or sorted into 'salvageable, drying separately'. We are honest about what is worth saving.
- Clean and sanitise
Every surface the water touched gets cleaned with antibacterial treatment. This includes inside cupboards, behind kickboards, and under furniture if you are able to move it for us.
- Post-drying deep clean
Once the room has been dried out (usually by you, your insurer or a restoration company), we come back for a full deep clean to remove dust residue and any remaining smell.
When you need a different trade, not us
We are honest about what we do and do not do. Industrial drying with dehumidifiers and air movers, removal of damaged plaster, electrical assessment, and sewage clean-up all need specialist firms or your insurance loss adjuster. We can recommend local Derby trades we work with regularly.
