Three people can quote you three prices for the same three-hour clean and all three can be fair. The gap is in who carries the cost of products, equipment, insurance, travel and cover.
Below is what each type of cleaner charges in 2026, what sits inside that rate, and what lands back on you when it does not.
Going rates by type of cleaner, 2026
Ranges are typical UK domestic rates for 2026. Derby sits below London and slightly above the wider regional average.
Common extras
- The question that settles it
Ask what the rate includes and how many hours the job needs. Two quotes are only comparable once both are answered.
- Minimum bookings
Most companies ask for two hours. Below that, travel and setup eat the visit.
- Surcharges to check for
Evenings, weekends, bank holidays, congestion, parking and product charges. We add none of them.
- Contracts
Agencies often want twelve weeks' notice. We do not use contracts at all.
What is the going rate for a cleaner in 2026?
£15 to £30 an hour for domestic cleaning, with most households paying £18 to £25. Rates have risen with the National Living Wage and with the cost of products and fuel, so a quote that matches 2022 prices is usually a cleaner who has not repriced rather than a bargain.
Derby Cleaners charges £25 an hour. That is the upper-middle of the range, and it is the full price: no product charge, no travel charge, no weekend rate.
Cleaning company or independent cleaner?
An independent cleaner is cheaper per hour and often excellent. The trade-off is single points of failure: no cover when they are ill or on holiday, and no insurer standing behind a broken item or a missed checkout deadline.
A company costs more per hour and absorbs those risks. For a weekly domestic clean that may not matter much. For an end of tenancy clean with a deposit and a deadline attached, it usually does.
How companies work out a quote
Honest quoting is hours multiplied by rate, not a number pulled to win the job. We estimate the hours from the property size, its condition and what the clean has to achieve, then multiply by £25 and tell you both numbers.
If a company will not tell you how many hours it has allowed, the quote cannot be compared with anyone else's, and there is nothing to hold them to if the clean is rushed.
