How much does rug cleaning cost in Derby?
Rug cleaning in Derby costs £25 to £45 for a rug up to 2m x 3m. Larger rugs start from £45 and are quoted from the size. Products, equipment and travel inside Derby are included, and we confirm a fixed price on the phone or from a photo on WhatsApp before we start.
Professional rug cleaning in Derby
A rug takes more punishment than the carpet around it. It sits where people walk, where children play and where drinks get dropped. Because it is loose, dirt also works down through the pile and collects underneath, so a rug can look fine on top and still be heavy with grit.
Sarah and the team clean rugs at your home across Derby. Where the rug allows, we use hot water extraction, the same method we use on carpets. Before we start we check what the rug is made from and test the colour on a hidden patch, because rugs vary far more than fitted carpet.
We are open seven days a week from 9am to 9pm, so you can pick a time that suits you. Take a look at the areas we cover around Derby.
When to book rug cleaning
- The rug in the hall or living room looks flat and grey in the walkway
- A pet has had an accident on it and you can still smell it
- Red wine, coffee or food has been spilt and has dried in
- Children or pets spend most of their time on the floor in that room
- The rug has been in storage or came with a second-hand house
- You want the rugs done at the same time as your carpets
What we can treat
- • Ground-in dirt and grit
- • Food and drink spills
- • Pet urine stains and odours
- • Mud tracked in from outside
- • Dull, flattened pile in busy areas
- • General stale smells
How we clean a rug
1. Size and price
Tell us the size of the rug by phone, or send a photo on WhatsApp. We confirm a fixed price before the work starts.
2. Care label and fibre check
We look for the care label and read the code: W for water-based cleaning, S for solvent only, W/S for either and X for vacuum only. If the rug has no label we check the material and construction by eye.
3. Patch test
We try the cleaning solution on a hidden corner to make sure the dyes stay put. If they run, or the rug is not safe to wet clean, we stop and tell you before doing anything else.
4. Dry soil removal and pre-treatment
Loose dirt and grit are vacuumed out first. Stains are then pre-treated, and pet stains and odours get an enzyme treatment.
5. Hot water extraction
We clean the rug and draw the dirty water straight back out, working with the direction of the pile.
6. Drying
Rugs take 4 to 8 hours to dry depending on thickness. A thin flat weave is quicker than a deep pile. Keep the room aired and keep shoes off until it is dry.

Is it worth having your rug professionally cleaned?
If the rug is one you like and it is just dirty or smelly, yes. Cleaning a rug up to 2m x 3m costs £25 to £45, which is much less than buying another, and the colours and pile usually look better afterwards.
It is also worth checking before you decide to bin it. A rug that seems past saving may just be full of grit and old spills.
Where it is less worthwhile is a rug that is frayed, bald in patches or permanently marked. Cleaning lifts dirt, not wear. If we think that is the case, we say so before we start.
Rugs we may not wet clean
Silk rugs, and some antique or hand-dyed rugs, may not be safe to wet clean. The dyes can run and the fibres can be damaged. If your rug is one of these, we tell you before we start and recommend a specialist.
Not sure what your rug is made of? Send us a photo and the care label if there is one, and we will tell you what we can do.
Pet accidents on a rug can usually be treated. Read about pet stain treatment for the details.
Book rugs with a carpet clean
Rugs can go on the same visit as a carpet clean, a deep clean or an end of tenancy clean, so you only need to be in once. See recent jobs for examples of what we have done.
Our 100% satisfaction guarantee applies to rugs too. If you are not happy, tell us within 48 hours and we come back to put it right.
Common questions about rug cleaning
How much does rug cleaning cost in Derby?
A rug up to 2m x 3m is £25 to £45. Larger rugs start from £45 and are quoted from the size. Products, equipment and travel inside Derby are included, and the price is fixed before we start.
How long does a rug take to dry?
Between 4 and 8 hours depending on how thick the rug is. A flat weave dries faster than a deep pile. Keep the room aired while it dries.
Which rugs can't be wet cleaned?
Silk rugs and some antique or hand-dyed rugs may not be safe to wet clean, because the dye can run or the fibres can be damaged. We check the rug and do a hidden patch test first. If it is not safe, we say so before starting and recommend a specialist.
Can you get pet stains and odours out of a rug?
Yes, we treat them with an enzyme treatment for £15 to £25 per affected area. The rug is then cleaned using hot water extraction as long as the fibres allow it.
How often should I have a rug cleaned?
Once a year works for most living rooms and bedrooms. A rug in a hallway or by the back door, or one that pets lie on, benefits from being done more often.
Can you clean the rug at the same time as my carpets?
Yes. Rugs can be booked alongside a carpet clean, a deep clean or an end of tenancy clean, so everything is done in one visit.
Can I get a price from a photo?
Yes. Send a photo of the rug with its approximate size on WhatsApp, or call us on 07491 874921, and we confirm a fixed price before we start work.
