Soft furnishings are priced per item, because a three-seater takes about the same time whichever house it sits in. The price covers vacuuming, pre-treating marks, the clean itself and grooming the fabric so it dries evenly.

Before anything gets wet we read the care label and test a hidden patch. A fabric that should not be wet cleaned is flagged before we start, not after.

Common extras

  • Pet stain and odour treatment

Add £15 to £25 per affected area. Urine needs an enzyme treatment to break down the cause of the smell rather than cover it.

  • Carpets in the same visit

    Around £30 a bedroom, £35 to £40 a living room, or £100 to £125 for every carpet in a three-bed house.

How long a sofa takes to dry

Four to six hours for most fabric sofas and mattresses with a window open, and four to eight hours for rugs depending on how thick the pile is. Cold, damp days take longer.

Sit on a sofa only once it feels dry to the touch, and keep coloured throws off it until then so no dye transfers onto the fabric.

Fabrics we check first

Care labels carry a code: W means water-based cleaning, S means solvent only, W/S means either, and X means vacuum only. We clean to the code. Silk, some antique or hand-dyed rugs and X-coded fabrics are flagged before we start, with advice on where to take them.

For leather sofas, mention it when you book so we can tell you what we can do for that piece.
